The first image is actually a sketch of our wisteria in our backyard. I did that while I was waiting for my brother to get back from the store. The rest are all fro the park/woods area near our house. In retrospect I probably should have went alone because then I could have been at my leisure, but as it was I didn’t want my brother to get bored so my sketches were rather hurried. This is both a good and bad thing in a way though, because on the one hand it made me work faster and prevented me from treating anything too preciously, but on the other hand I don’t feel I had sufficient time to take in all of the nuances and details. XP I may go back there again later in the week if the weather doesn’t become too hot.

While I was there I also took lots of photographs of the area I like to call the “Grove of Three”. It was basically a small grove of three trees at the edge of the field near a paved pathway. I think I may use the “Grove of Three” in a future comic so that was totally helpful! Oh and in the last image, I’m thinking that play may be a type of Pennywort, but it was found far enough away from the creek that it might not be…I don’t know. I’d probably need a fully detailed Audubon book for certain identification. Either way I like it’s leaves.

Here’s some more of that WIP….I’m not sure whether or not I like the top to fade off to white or to fill it in with the more marine blue. I might be leaning towards white? Anyway let me know your opinions. Also I darkened the marine color in this version, how do ya’ll feel about that? Still working on those pesky upper protozoans though…still haven’t solved em’. XP

WIP…It has it’s strong points and weak points right now. Not sure whether or not to ditch the green and stick with a pink/blue color scheme, though I do like the green protozoans at the bottom that have good contrast against the marine blue. Something about the background just isn’t pulling together though….maybe I need to render the dress more to get a better idea of what to do next.

Doing some roughs and I wanted to know which of these layouts do people prefer? Or if you don’t like any and you think I need to go back to the drawing board (duh dum chee) then I’d like to know that too.

Emotion sketches and head turns, next is outfit planning. Normally when I’m designing characters for something josei or slice of life I just focus on getting the character’s face down first since definitive outfits do not matter much since the characters will change clothing frequently. Afterwards I plan the fashion for each chapter individually. Usually I plan fashion partly based on what I feel the character’s overall style is, and also partly based on what I feel will be the best aesthetic for a important scene.

Well that’s about it, don’t get your hopes of for any comics anytime soon though because I’m still all wiffle-waffley and fearing webcomic commitment, lol. XD

Some Pre-Raphaelite/Belle Epoque ladies I sketch from old timey-wimey photographs. This was just for portraiture practice and seeing how things could be stylized and subtly exaggerated for more beauty.

Bison, because I need more practice drawing animals of the large and burly persuasion. There were some hits and misses in this lot. heh.

I wanted to experiment more with my new PS brush as well as practice sketching on the computer. I still don’t feel I have as much control with computer sketching as I’d like, but maybe with practice it will get better? Hah…. Anyhow I tried out color with the pencil today….it doesn’t quite mimic colored pencil because colored pencil is a little more waxy. I should have used a darker brown for the pencil too, but the soft line is kinda nice. Oh well, off to get some work done.

I found this tutorial here on how to adjust the brush settings in PS to get something that looks and feels a little more like pencil. Anyhow this is my first digital sketch trying it out…clearly you all can see what I have on my brain…handsome guys \(˚¬˚)/ Anyway I’ve never been fond of sketching on the computer, but this was kinda fun and I’m liking the brush. Guess I’ll have to do more digital sketches.
