My Pullip Nina Arrived!

My Nina arrived today and I was so excited to get her. I am so pleased with her overall look, and I love the ability to make her look in different directions, however we had a snafu….a sad sad snafu….when I went to bend her knees for her to sit, her knee join snapped. D’:> Yes, it was woesville for a while, but I have since ordered a new 27 inch obitsu for her, so it looks like I’ll be modding her much sooner than planned. Anyway I’ll put the full account of today’s adventures, plus pic of the break behind a cut.

Here is a pic of the broken part and her leg disassembled. You can see that the peg just snapped right off the knee. For a while it was stuck inside her thigh and I had to use pliers to pull out the broken piece. After getting it out, I looked at it a little closer and it appears that some of the knee joint plastics are fused together which causes the joint to be stuck in the standing position and would be the reason why it snapped when I tried to bend her knee. I read on Pullip style where this “stuck knee” is a known defect of the Nina variety of Pullip. It’s a little disconcerting to spend so much money on a doll and to have her come with a defect. I mean I love her and I know I’m going to have a lot of fun sewing clothes and having photo shoots, but none of my BJDs have ever arrived with serious issues such as this and I thought BJDs were supposed to be so darned fragile. As it turns out Pullip is much more fragile. Anyway as I said, I ordered my Nina an obitsu and in the meantime I glued the broken knee joint back together with some plastic safe cement so she can at least have two legs to stand on.

The other defect, or presumed defect my Nina has is that her eye mechanism will not stay shut when I try to shut her eyes. Her eyes will always spring back open. I got a tip on the Pullip Style forums though to stick some toothpicks in the button sockets to keep them shut for photo taking. Again, these defects are upsetting, but I can’t say as they will deter me from buying another Pullip/Taeyang/Dal in the future. Seeing as a new company has taken over Pullip’s marketing and production now, perhaps the quality will improve. I still also find the dolls so darned cute and their scale makes them versatile and enjoyable.
