Dollmore Banji

I’ve looked at the Banji dolls before back when I was looking for a roughly 1:12 scale BJD for my small dollhouse. I liked them back then and I still like them now although I feel they would be difficult to find wigs and clothing for. One of the things that made me choose a Brownie over a Banji for my first 1:12 dollhouse doll was the fact that the Banji doll’s eyes are so small and the iris of 6mm eyes are disproportionate to the white, so the iris fills practically the whole eye. Glib has some 6mm eyes with a 2mm iris, BUT the pupil is out of proportion, and they all look like owl eyes. XP However, I recently came across a tutorial on how to make your own custom doll eyes from polymer clay, so there is a possibility of creating some custom eyes for a Banji.

Anyway I am again considering getting a Banji, especially after seeing the special Rose fullset because of the very lovely face-up it has. I could really care less about the clothing set that comes with her though, so that makes me feel like not spending the extra $46 for the special doll. After all, the white Banji has a very nice face-up too with rosy cheeks, but she is sold out….I don’t know if they plan to restock or if it’s perma-gone. Either way I will more than likely have to hold off on any doll purchases until mid July since I may be going on vacation for a week, and the last thing I want is for a doll to arrive when I am gone.

Dollmore Lukia Dolls

I just noticed the news posting about these two girls on BJD Collectasy, and I’m so excited about these cuties that I thought I’d post about them here as well. These new girls named Coral and Sky are only 32 cm tall, but have mature bodies that seem reminiscent of obitsu bodies. The oversized head for me also screams Pullip, and the lips seem like they have a little Dal pout going on. Unlike Pullip and obitsu though, these dolls are resin cast.

Because I’m curious to know if these girls will be able to wear fashion doll clothing, I decided to investigate some fashion doll measurements to compare, and the news is heartening!

Lukia Doll Measurements

Height : 32cm
Eyes : 20~24mm
Circumference of Head : 22cm (8-9inches sized wigs fit well)
Circumference of neck : 4cm
Circumference of chest : 13.3cm
Width of shoulders: 6cm
Circumference of waist :8cm
Circumference of hips : 12.3cm
Length of “from hips to ankle” : 17.5cm
Length of “from knee to ankle” : 7.7cm
Foot size : 2.6cm based on heeled feet

Liv Doll Measurements

Height: 30.48 cm (12 in)
Head Circumference: 16 cm (6.29 in)
Neck Circumference: 4.5 cm (1.77 in)
Shoulder Width: 5 cm (1.96 in)
Shoulder to Wrist: 8.5 cm (3.34 in)
Elbow to Wrist: 4 cm (1.57 in)
Back Length: 6.5 cm (2.56 in)
Chest Circumference: 12.5 cm (4.92 in)
Waist Circumference: 9 cm (3.54 in)
Hip Circumference: 11.5 cm (4.52 in)
Hip to Knee: 8.5 cm (3.34 in)
Knee to Ankle: 6.5 cm (2.55 in)
Ankle Circumference: 3 cm (1.18 in)
Feet Size: 2.5 cm (0.98 in)

Barbie’s measurements are also comparable as well, so it looks like there is real potential for these dolls to wear some fashion doll clothing, though it will probably be half experimentation to find out what works properly as anyone who’s experience with Pullips would know!

Currently you can order Coral or Sky, both of which are full-sets and come with everything you see in the picture for $327. For a full-set that includes shoes and two sets of feet amongst everything else, it doesn’t seem too bad, though I do have to wonder if they will offer basic sets of Lukia in the future. Either way I’ll definitely be putting Lukia on my list of dolls to keep any eye on, and I can’t wait to see owner photos of them!

Yara’s bad face-up and Sona’s new to her wig.

I wanted to give my Yara a new face-up, this time something a little bolder and with fresher colors, and well it turned out bolder all right, but it started heading in a direction that I ended up not liking. After having already wiped and re-primed twice because of eyebrow flubs, I decided to just continue with my third attempt since the brows turned out fine. In the end though I think it’s too garish and I have way too many little flubs and blunders all through the entire face-up. I’m going to wipe her face again soon and re-do it, but I probably won’t be able to get to it again for a few days, so she’s like she is for now. Anyhow I thought I’d post this bad face-up for posterity or something. XD

Also, Sona’s newness has wore off enough so I thought I would finally remove her original wig which was velcroed on by dollmore. I had bought this short blunt cut wig for her back when I first ordered her and I wasn’t positive I would get the wig I wanted. After trying it on her I think I’ll keep it on her for a while since the cut has a schoolgirl vibe to it that I think suits her well, and it’s also easier to manage.

Still thinking about new dolls as in my previous post, but every time I consider making a large frivolous purchase I always have to argue with myself over it for a week or so before I come to any conclusions. I did however take my DIM Danbi out of his box this afternoon, mostly with the intention of checking his condition for sale. After getting him out and looking him over and being newly shocked by his size again, I think I decided I should keep him because although he’s not double jointed, it is a nice body sculpt, so IF I did order the Ash fullset there could be the possibility of him using the DIM body which I think looks a little more manly than the mudoll body sculpt. Argh! Listen to me, I am still seriously considering it! o(>3<;)o

Dollmore & Asleep Eidolon Resin Comparison

After getting my Sona out of her box, one of the first things I wanted to do was to see how the tint of Dollmore’s resin compared to Asleep Eidolon’s resin. The Dollmore kid body lacks the mature features that many of the other female MSD bodies have, so there are many Dollmore kid owners who have been pondering how they can get a more mature body for their girls. Of course I am in no hurry to hybridize my Sona because she is just to perfect to me right now, but perhaps after her newness wears off I may find myself more willing to embark on experimentation. Anyway on with the comparison pics.

In this pic we have Sona on the left and my AE Yara on the right. My AE Yara has the old style slim body, and the AE girls are now on their third body type which is no longer as slim. I don’t know if AE’s resin color has changed at all between incarnations but if I find any definitive information I will be sure to edit this posting. Anyhow from the pic you can see that the two resins are very similar and I would say they are a pretty good match. AE’s resin is ever so slightly more cream colored and Dollmore’s is slightly whiter, but you really have to sit there and analyze and nit-pick in order to see the difference.

Anyway here is a close-up with more natural light from the window for those of you who would like more comparison shots in different lighting. Hopefully these pics can help people with their decision making when they are considering a different body for their Dollmore Kid.

Sona Arrived! Box Opening Pics Follow :D

I was more than shocked today to find that my Sona arrived! Her tracking number still didn’t seem to be working on the EMS site, so I thought for sure that her progress must have been slow and I truly wasn’t expecting her until next week. As it is she must have been on an airplane that landed in Chicago for her to get to me so soon. Anyway I was totally excited and I am more than pleased with her. Box opening pics follow behind the cut!
